The Coast province cricket tournament for primary schools was successfully completed at Coast Gymkhana on Friday 29th July, 2011. After four days of intense competition amongst a quartet of top state schools from the coastal city, Ronald Ngala primary school emerged champions after beating Ziwani Boys by 9 runs via a super-over decider after the best of three finals ended in a stalemate.

Challenging the victors for the prestigious title was the trio of Serani primary, Ziwani Boys and a combined Fahari/Sparki schools outfit. The first of these finals went right to the wire, when after 15 overs of tough competition, Ziwani boys and Ronald Ngala settled for 32 runs apiece. It meant that honours were shared as the second final beckoned; Ronald Ngala ceased the initiative to take the next step towards the title by outsmarting opponents Ziwani Boys 50 runs to 30 runs to beat their arch-rivals by 20. It was a see-saw battle of wits and Ziwani Boys were not going to take defeat lying down as they turned the tables on their challengers by upstaging them albeit by a slimmer margin of 5 runs scoring 42 runs to Ronald Ngala’s 37 runs. The best of three finals had now been shared one to one and it needed the delightful influence of the ‘super-over’ to separate the two protagonists. But defending champions Ronald Ngala were not going to be denied their place at the podium; they began the final hurdle event every bit like title holders, taking the early initiative to score 9 runs of the single over eliminator before keeping it so tight to deny neighbors Ziwani Boys an opportunity to register any score on the board from all six deliveries. The opening day belonged to Ziwani boys who registered two wins out of two compared Ronald Ngala and Serani’s one win a piece, before the eventual winners reversed the results on day two to sweep aside all before them and rise to the top of the standings. A similar story was on the cards on the penultimate day as hot-favourites Ronald Ngala did a repeat on their opponents and found a bit of resistance from fellow finalists Ziwani. The day ended with Serani emerging third in the event while a combined Fahari/Sparki side finishing bottom of the league table. The event witnessed several brilliant individual performances, most notably from the newly crowned champions who scooped both the bowling and batting awards on top of lifting the esteemed trophy. The best bowler’s award went to A. Swaleh who registered 82 runs off 9 innings and M. Bakari’s effort of 26 wickets conceding only 39 runs in 12 overs bowled, earned the youngster, the accolade of being crowned the best bowler in public institutions at the coast.
